Sensitivity analysis of threshold parameters in slug detection algorithms

Slug flow is a common pattern in pipelines that often accompanied by undesirable effects like vibrations, pressure loss, and corrosion. Since these correlate with slug frequency, various attempts to predict this parameter empirical or semi-empirical methods have been undertaken the past. However, significant mismatches between predictions can be observed. In work, different frequency calculation applied simulation data investigate sensitivity of threshold parameters are used detection algorithms. The findings reveal slugs from liquid holdup highly sensitive thresholds. Aeration phase causes gas–liquid interface less distinct requires an adaption thresholds degree aeration. contrast, algorithms based on analysis robust small deviations level but fail properly discriminate waves. Our investigations show strongly depends method chosen for determination level. We propose new approaches susceptible aeration approximate very close authors’ human judgment.
